This is the first blog post on Fundamentals of Language that will help you learn about the different types of language. The first type of language is called spoken language where people use words, sounds, and sometimes gestures to communicate with each other. The second type of language is written or printed speech where people write text to express thoughts and ideas. The third type is computer-mediated communication (CMC) which means using computers, tablets, mobiles etc. for communications like emailing or messaging. CMC can be used for both spoken and written speech but traditionally the two types are not mixed up in one place at once like they are on Facebook or Twitter for example. The fourth type is informal language which means speaking with friends and family members in informal environments like home, the street, market etc. while the fifth type is formal language which means speaking in formal or formal settings like a classroom, conference room etc. The sixth type of language is called specialised/non-standard languages like sign language, spoken through lipreading and spoken sign languages, poetry and literature that cannot be translated into other languages. Greetings such as “Hello” or “Good morning” are written down in a book form called a greeting card which can be given to a person during the holiday season or on birthdays to show good wishes to them. The seventh type of language is called professional languages where people who have a job have to speak a certain way in order to get a higher position or reach their career peak. The eighth type of language is called academic languages where people go through courses and training to learn a profession. In some countries, even if you do not work in that field, your children may take English classes just so they can have the skills to travel and meet people from other countries. Many people cannot speak one or more of these types of languages because they are not native speakers and cannot speak standard spoken language at all. However, their friends and family members do not really care whether they can understand what other people say because they enjoy hanging out with them anyway. People who are native speakers are able to use all of these types of language for various occasions. They speak standard spoken language at home with family members and also in formal settings with their teachers or employers. When they are among friends, they usually relax and speak low-standard language that is different from formal speech. However, what is considered low-standard language depends on the society where you live. If you travel overseas, you may not be able to communicate with people who use certain words/phrases because there may be a huge cultural/linguistic difference between you and them. They may even think that you are speaking a different language and not understand what you are saying. It is also hard to communicate with someone who speaks a different type of language than you do because your brains will not necessarily translate everything you say into their language. The following is a chart that explains the various types of languages used worldwide: The seventh article article on this blog is about learning how to learn languages. The first step to learning any language is having the motivation and drive to learn. If people want to learn languages, it shows that they have curiosity and want to explore new things and meet new people. People express their motivation through the four main sources: culture, nature, technology and history. cfa1e77820
