This pdf is an edited and corrected version of the 8th Edition of Operating Systems, published in 2009. The original author, Amoroso, died in 2008 and this is his final work. This pdf contains all the additions he made to the 8th Edition before he passed away. There were a lot of formatting changes that we wanted to make to this book for publishing, but we resisted because we felt they would be too much work for you with all the other changes in the book with Amoroso's passing (and also Brezinski's new edition). We did however, implement the following formatting changes: This pdf contains all of the source code examples, but not all of the pictures. It has only been lightly edited. No attempt was made to change the examples for modern hardware. The original examples all assume 1 cpu and no threads, so they will work fine on multicore machines with multiple cpus. Most of them will not work on machines with multiple processors unless you run them in parallel on each processor. In Sysak's example code the schedular is a dummy that does no scheduling because it does not need to do any scheduling when there is only one CPU. Also the data segment was moved to a separate file. There is a good chance that all of Sysak's example code will work on a Windows based computer without any modifications. Click here if you wish to see what changed between editions 7th & 8th. The table of contents was created using the internal pdf version's hyperlinked TOC. So there are internal links within this document that do not work correctly with the html formatted TOC above, but they should work correctly with the actual pdf file downloaded from us. If the links do not work correctly with the html formatted TOC above then they will also not work correctly with the actual pdf file downloaded from us. The links may be fixed someday but probably not. We do not plan on fixing them, because an html formatted TOC is of no value to anyone who downloaded this book for free from us. And if you purchased this book from us then you already have a working pdf file that you can seek within using the internal links in this book to jump directly to any section that interests you. cfa1e77820
